Literature Text

There are too many sad poems around

Too many works that are gray,

drab,

dead,

and downright depressing.

There are lots of disparaging words about hatred,

racism,

politics,

religion,

relationships,

and life in general.

So this is a poem to teach you how to smile

in a world full of frowns.

First, grab the left corner of your mouth,

then the right,

and gently pull upwards to form a smile

like this ---------------------> :)

Now, this is the important part:

To keep the smile there without having to hold it,

Close your eyes

and think of something that fills you with joy...

...it could be the sunshine,

fresh baked cookies,

your child's toothy grin,

the smell of a new book,

grass waving in the summer breeze,

a warm hug from your lover,

the feel of sand between your toes,

a bird's morning symphony,

or just about anything really.

Do you have that thought?

Hold on to it

Now let go of your lips

and VOILA! The smile should linger!

Now, there are plenty of sad things in this world,

Plenty of reasons not to smile,

but when life gets gray

don't forget to grab that memory

to reach within the depths of your soul

and let a little of that sunshine in.

Smiles, like colds,

are contagious

But smiles (unlike colds)

are also warm and joyful!

You have a beautiful smile

that this worlds needs to see.

So get out there

and SMILE!

:D
SMILE! You are loved! :)
